This work is a study on the construction of political discourse manipulation in a national context – Brazil. In order to do so, it analyzes the linguistic-discursive strategies in the speech of Congressman Nikolas Ferreira, in part of a video message about the taxation of Pix in Brazil, published by him on the Instagram platform. The choice of this object of study is justified by the growing spread of fake news and manipulated content in the 21st century, especially in the political scenario, which makes the need for critical readings of texts, both oral and written, circulating widely in the social sphere even more relevant. The analysis adopts a qualitative methodological approach, investigating, through discursive sequences, the argumentative aims that constitute the act of language in question. The theoretical framework used follows the principles of Semiolinguistics of the Discourse, as proposed by Patrick Charaudeau (2019), including concepts such as the semiotization of the world, subjects and language partners, ethos, aim, and argumentative mode of discourse. The study of the congressman’s speech reveals productive strategies in the construction of manipulation, highlighting mechanisms such as the construction of credibility, audience engagement, projection of an ethos favorable to his image, and the disqualification of the opponent. These elements serve as instruments of persuasion and influence how the discourse is structured and interpreted by its recipients. This research contributes to understanding how linguistic-discursive strategies are used in the political arena to shape opinions and manipulate the audience.
