Mário de Andrade - é argui-sabido - foi um dos mais atuantes próceres do Modernismo brasileiro. Pertenceu à fase inicial do movimento, que vai de 1920 a 1930, na autorizada classificação de Alceu Amoroso Lima (Tristão de Athayde) mas continuou presente na fase central, que o mesmo crítico literário faz terminar em 1945, ano em Mário veio a falecer.
