As idéias lingüísticas de Fernão de Oliveira
Abstract
The aim of this study is to show the importance of Fernão de Oliveira's grammatical description. It analyses the main aspects of Fernão de Oliveira's orthographic doctrine, his perception of the phonemic structure of 16th century Portuguese language, and the way he treated the processes of word formation. This analysis shows Fernão de Oliveira's surprisingly creative linguistic ideas that appeared at a time when grammarians paid a lot of respect to the classic tradition.
