Estratégias de proteção e ameaça à face da competência em um debate político
Keywords:
facework, competence face, political debateAbstract
This study aims to identify the strategies used by participants of a political debate – program’’59 (fifty-nine seconds) of the Spanish television – to protect and threaten the face wants during the negotiation / co-construction of the competence face which involves the desire for approval of the self and the other’s skills and abilities. Based on the literature on face and facework, we have proposed to build an interface between the concept of the competence face (Lim and Bowers, 1991) and Robyn Penman’s (1990) facework model. In the analysis we could identify these strategies through the presentation or defense of the information / points of view that constitute the agenda of this debate.
