Abstract

Our object of analysis is “O dialeto caipira”, written by Amadeu Amaral. Published in 1920, Amaral’s founds dialectology studies in Brazil. Amaral focuses on Sao Paulo, looking at the “dialeto caipira”. Our goal is to examine what is being designed as “dialeto caipira”. The reading of “O dialeto caipira” led us to two hypotheses: if “O dialeto caipira” can be considered as a founding discourse and an event language. We use Discourse Analysis in conjunction with the History of Linguistic Ideas.
